IU is pleased to welcome Sam Winters as Energy Engineer. This position, housed in Energy Management and Utilities, will support the IU Office of Sustainability with energy projects outlined in the Climate Action Plan.
Sam, a licensed Professional Engineer, recently completed his Master’s of Public Affairs at Indiana University’s O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, and he previously received bachelor's degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics from Purdue and Marian Universities, respectively. After his undergraduate studies, Sam worked in the private sector designing and commissioning mechanical systems.
Since 2021, Sam has served as a Mechanical Engineer in the Capital Projects department within IU Capital Planning and Facilities. In his new role, Sam will continue to support the incorporation of sustainability principles in new building projects, but he will chiefly turn his attention to implementing energy saving projects across the university, in support of the Climate Action Plan.
Upon beginning his new role, Sam said “I am excited to bring my knowledge, expertise, and energy to this role that is critical to the realization of the university's climate action goals. I look forward to providing a direct connection between the Office of Sustainability and Energy Management and Utilities as both units strive for a more efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective IU.”
Given his prior experience, Sam brings a unique skillset and knowledgebase for approaching sustainability projects. His technical knowledge and practical experience executing projects at IU are a tremendous asset to both the Sustainability and Energy Management and Utilities teams.
