Jags Reach for the Stars: 
IUPUI Achieves Gold STARS Rating

For the the first time ever, IUPUI has earned a Gold STARS rating, a testament to the university's commitment to sustainable practices. The accomplishment positions IUPUI as the second most sustainable university in Indiana, second only to IU Bloomington. Read IUPUI's full STARS Report.

The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System ("STARS") is a globally recognized self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. STARS is a program of AASHE - the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education . IUPUI is a member of AASHE and has produced three STARS reports, dating back to 2016. Starting in 2020, IUPUI will begin reporting on sustainability progress annually.

Conference Update: Andrew Winston to Deliver Keynote Address at #ISRC2020 
Andrew Winston will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural Indiana Sustainability and Resilience Conference, made possible by the McKinney Family Foundation. His keynote address is titled, MegaTrends and the Big Pivot: Profit and Innovation in a Hotter, Scarcer, More Open & Connected World. Andrew Winston is a globally recognized expert on how companies can navigate humanity’s biggest challenges and profit from solving them.

Jags Helping Jags: Launch of Paw's Express Addresses Two Growing Issues on Campus
The Campus Kitchen at IUPUI and Paw's Pantry have teamed up to create Paw's Express - a program designed to address both food insecurity and food waste. Paw's Express provides Paw's Pantry customers with nutritious meals consisting of rescued food, during times when they can't shop the pantry to help fill gaps in service.

Turn Down for Winning Watt: University Tower Celebrates Energy Challenge Victory
University Tower residents celebrated their hard-fought victory in the 2019 Energy Challenge at IUPUI. The Tower single-handedly saved 14,548.98 KWh of energy – the equivalent of saving more than 11,000 pounds of coal from burning or 23.8 barrels of oil from being consumed. The celebration also achieved Green Event Certification by utilizing sustainable practices like zero-waste catering, composting and more. Congratulations, Team Tower!

Clean Plate Challenge
Look out for IUPUI Sustainability at the University Tower dining hall, as we host the monthly Clean Plate Challenge. Make your best effort to prevent food waste by cleaning your plate, and you'll win a prize! The Challenge will be accompanied by a food waste audit, where we'll measure the total pounds of uneaten food thrown away. Register to volunteer.

Barking Up The Right Tree: Free Nature Discovery Class
This Indy Parks and Rec program will focus on one element of tree identification - the bark. Unlike the deciduous leaves, the bark is present all year round making winter a great time to get out and start to learn tree identification. Throughout a hike that will be approximately 3/4 mile, we will stop to look at bark color and texture to start to identify trees. Register to attend.
