2019 Energy Challenge Winners Announced: 
Team Tower Powers Through to First Place 

Throughout the three weeks of the Energy Challenge, University Tower single-handedly saved 14,548.98 KWh of energy – the equivalent of saving more than 11,000 pounds of coal from burning or 23.8 barrels of oil from being consumed.

As winners of the second-annual Energy Challenge at IUPUI, all occupants of University Tower will be treated to a celebration party. This triumph will go down in IUPUI history, as University Tower will be added to the Energy Challenge banner that permanently hangs in the Campus Center. Learn more about the Energy Challenge.

Real Recognizes Real: Jessica Davis Named Recycling Rock Star 
Our very own Jessica Davis, director of IUPUI Sustainability, has been named one of the  Indiana Recycling Coalition 's 30 Recycling Rock Stars! As part of their 30th anniversary, the IRC has named 30 individuals who have made a significant impact on the organization, its mission, and the circular economy in the state of Indiana. Davis has been recognized for her leadership on waste reduction, recycling and composting.

Calling for Applications: Greening IUPUI Grant Accepting Submissions
Are you an IUPUI student, faculty, or staff member that has an idea that could positively impact our campus sustainability? You may now submit a proposal and you could receive funding to make it happen! Greening IUPUI Grants are awarded once a year to fund projects that advance campus sustainability. Up to $50,000 in funding is available, and applications are due Feb 14, 2020. See here for more information and past winners.

Lighting Up the Competition: Energy Club at IUPUI Named Finalists in Solar Design Competition
The Energy Club at IUPUI is competing in the Solar District Cup 2020 , and they've been named one of 35 finalists advancing to the final round! The Solar District Cup is a collegiate design competition, organized by the U.S. Department of Energy. The Cup challenges multidisciplinary student teams to design and model optimized distributed solar energy systems for a campus or urban district. The IUPUI team will present their final project to judges and industry leaders at the Solar and Energy Storage Southeast Conference in April 2020, where winners will be announced.

Be Sure to Tree-cycle: Nine Indy Parks Accepting Live Christmas Trees for Recycling
Thanks to Indy Parks and Recreation , you can now recycle your live Christmas tree at nine Indy Parks from December 26 through January 31. Remember to remove any decorations before dropping off. These trees will be recycled into sustainable landscaping resources like mulch and soil blends. Learn more about Christmas tree recycling.
