NCAA March Madness: March Madness will be a carbon neutral event!
IUPUI Sustainability is proud to be lending its expertise to help make the NCAA March Madness and Final Four operationally carbon neutral for the first time in their history. Director Jessica Davis and IUPUI students Jonathon Lewis and Megan Grubbs are leading the greenhouse gas quantifications necessary to make this possible. Thank you to our partners for. Thank you to our partners for making this historical achievement possible as well: AES Indiana, Heritage, ClimeCo, Indiana Sports Corp, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc.
The IUPUI Staff Council passed a carbon neutrality resolution at its March 17, 2021 meeting. The resolution, introduced by the Staff Council Sustainability Committee, in collaboration with the IUPUI Office of Sustainability, contains six goals for Indiana University to make a healthier, cleaner Indiana. These goals are:
• Develop a system-wide sustainability action plan by 2025.
• Include and prioritize sustainability and the sustainability action plan in all strategic planning.
• Actively support the work of all sustainability initiatives (SustainIU, Offices of Sustainability, committees, and academic programs) at campuses and wider communities.
• Anticipate the post-carbon, sustainable economic era and preserve fiscal responsibility while pursuing the goal of carbon neutrality.
• Bring together faculty, staff and students to develop, implement and model best-practices for the use of renewable resources, to benefit those in the next 50 years and beyond.
• Work to become carbon neutral no later than 2040.
The IUPUI Staff Council Sustainability Committee would like to capitalize on this achievement by encouraging other Staff Councils at IU campuses to pass this resolution and send a strong message to Indiana University about the importance of carbon neutrality. Similar resolutions have already been passed by the Faculty Councils at every IU campus, IUPUI's Graduate and Professional Student Government, and is being discussed in undergraduate student government at IUPUI.

🌳 We celebrate trees every Arbor Day
🌳 IUPUI students use trees in service learning
Special thank you to the Campus Facility Services Grounds Department for their dedication to caring for our campus trees and ongoing support for sustainability initiatives! IUPUI couldn't earn this recognition without you!
